CHKN is a survival game with a weird and wacky twist. Players find themselves on a large and detailed but strangely deserted island where they have to figure out how to stay alive by building their own shelter and searching for food. The twist comes quite quickly in the game but is still rather unexpected. In addition to finding their way around, players discover that they have the ability to create weird and wonderful creatures by splicing together elements from other creatures. These creatures all have their own distinct personalities and interacting with them can be fun in some cases and simply terrifying in others. however, trying to figure out what to do can be rather tricky at times.
Anyone who enjoys playing survival games and wants to try something different is likely to have fun playing CHKN. While there is a large island to explore, there is no real map, which can make getting lost all too easy. the creatures that gamers make tend to behave rather unpredictably and have a tendency to try and eat or maul their creator, which adds an extra element of danger and menace to the game.
CHKN Review
CHKN is an interesting game, as you can tell from the trailers.
In terms of game play, it’s hard to compare it to other games. It feels a bit like Minecraft, because you must grind and hunt for your building blocks. It kind of feels like Spore, because your creatures are always evolving and being reshaped. Yet still, it doesn’t feel like any of them at times. I think CHKN is in its own niche.
There’re some strong exploration aspects that force you to wander and expand. Along the way you’ll find new animals, and new parts. It’s honestly a pretty game. The graphics aren’t the best, but they are decent. The world seems well put together with different biomes. The exploration feels fun and enjoyable.
There are some issues though. It’s an Early Access game, and sometimes it feels that way. Some things lack polish, and you’ll find oddities and bugs. In my experience though, none of them are game ruining, just odd. In truth though, even for an Early Access title, its quite playable.
The game developer is continuing to work on the title, all be it a bit slower then the player base would like. Still, there is real progress being made and I feel they can be trusted to finish the game in the not to distant future.
Even as it is, the game is playable and fun. You can probably get a good 20 or so hours out of it before you start repeating things.
