Darwin Project

Darwin Project

The Darwin Project takes place in a dystopian post-apocalyptic landscape in the Northern Canadian Rockies. As preparation for an impending Ice Age, a new project, half science experiment half live-entertainment, is launched. It’s called the “Darwin Project” and it challenges participants to survive the cold and fight to the death in a treacherous arena. The Darwin Project offers a competitive multiplayer third person survival experience featuring at its core a new gameplay innovation: the manhunt. In his or her path to victory, a player must survive extreme environmental conditions, track opponents, and set traps in order to win.

KEY FEATURES:
– SPECTATOR EXPERIENCE:
Through the Spectator Experience Extension, viewers can impact each Darwin Project match in several groundbreaking ways:

  • Cast votes to choose the target of a Power activated by the Show Director
  • Place bets on which inmate or team they think will emerge victorious
  • Bid for Powers normally reserved for Show Directors & unleash them in a Private Match

– SHOW DIRECTOR:
The Show Director is the living bridge between the players and spectators. He/She is the host and master who controls the arena with nuclear bombs, zone closures, gravity storms, and the power of their voice. This could be a real tool of self discovery; the start of your new career as a charming but deadly game show host.

– DYNAMIC, TACTICAL GAMEPLAY WITH SURVIVAL ELEMENTS:

Gather resources, craft tools, upgrade your gear, track your enemies, engage in both melee and ranged combat, and be the last inmate left alive.

Darwin Project Review

Darwin Project is the most innovative of the various Battle Royale games that have become increasingly popular in the recent years. This innovation is achieved in a few ways:

10 person games, rather than 100+ that most Battle Royale games do. This is a really nice change in pace, as it speeds up matches a lot. I have found myself burned out by games like Fortnite and PUBG because each game feels like a committment that requires my full attention at all times. Darwin Project is much more laid back, and games rarely go over 10 minutes.

The Director system. Instead of the same shrinking circle of most Battle Royale games, there is one Director (which can be you once you get to level 5) that utilizes different abilities to spice up the game

A greater sense of community. Far more than any other Battle Royale game, I find myself meeting and talking to people in the lobbies. This has a lot to do with an admittably small playerbase that leaves you playing with the same people for many rounds in a row. This sounds like a negative, but I have found it really enjoyable to talk to people from previous matches about how their game went, what happened from their perspective, etc.

The communication system. The fights are more like duels than shootouts/sneaky takeouts of games like PUBG and Fortnite. The close range, longer battles are made even more enjoyable by the communication system that allows you to talk to both your opponent and Director. I have found that most players are really respectful, and always give you a “GG”. The Director can also communicate with all the players with challenges, bounties, and commentary, which really puts you into the role of an entertainer for those watching.

Summary
Overall, this game looks and plays good, and feels fresh as a concept, even in a market that is dominated by the giants of battle royale. It offers some intresting game mechanics that one game kinda tried to copy (i won't give any names here). This one is definietly one battle royale game you should not miss on.
