Darksiders Genesis
From the dawn of creation, THE COUNCIL has maintained the Balance across existence. Carrying out their orders are THE HORSEMEN, Nephilim (powerful beings spawned from the unnatural union of angels and demons) who have pledged themselves to the Council and been granted immense power. However, this power came at a tragic cost: the Horsemen were ordered to use their newfound strength to wipe out the rest of their kind. What followed was a bloody battle on Eden where the Horsemen, obeying the will of the Council, annihilated the Nephilim.
Still reeling from the events on Eden, WAR and STRIFE have been given a new assignment — LUCIFER, the enigmatic and deceptive demon king, has been plotting to upset the Balance by granting power to master demons throughout Hell. War and Strife must hunt down these masters, gather information, and ultimately fight their way through a tangled, demonic conspiracy that threatens to forever upset the Balance and unravel all of creation.

Darksiders Genesis Review
Before I start, I have to make this absolutely clear. This is not a Diablo clone like so many people even professional review sites claimed. I say that because I got into the game with the impression that this would be something similar to an isometric hack n slash like Diablo but it isn’t. It’s an isometric action adventure with very light RPG elements. There isn’t leveling up, there isn’t getting new gear, nothing of that, but there is powering up through a simplistic system of assigning souls of monsters you killed to a skill tree (it’s simpler that it sounds) and buying new moves and upgrades after each level.
Besides that it plays like a lighter version of the main Darksiders games. There’s a bit of platforming, exploration for secrets, a decent combat system, puzzles (mostly for hidden upgrades), big bosses, the lot. Everything in the beloved universe of Darksiders with that distinctive atmosphere that characterizes the franchise. Visuals even though not technically impressive look great because of the art style, the music is amazing, dialogues for the most part are good (Strife has that Deadpool vibe that personally don’t feel it matches the rest of the cast, especially the other 3 horsemen).
Gameplay wise, it’s a pretty solid game given that it’s basically a budget release. There is a bit of junkiness (enemies clip through the floor at times for example), but nothing that really detracts from the game. Didn’t have any crashes, or weird performance issues. You start with a basic set of attacks and one special power for each character (if you don’t play with another player, you switch between Strife and War), but as you play you can unlock extra combos, extend the existing ones, get new powers and sub weapons.
Haven’t completed the game yet, but after 10 hours I find the game flowing smoothly, never really got bored, exploring and finding secrets is a blast and I am invested in the story even though mostly because I am a huge fan of the previous titles (even the divisive 3rd game I loved). I know I didn’t get into much detail but the main reason I wanted to write a review for this is because I can see people downvoting it and reviewing it negatively because they were under the impression that this would be a Diablo clone. Personally, I really liked it and I would easily recommend it to Darksiders fans and hack n slash action games in general (it is a prequel so even though it’s better to have played at least the first of the series, you don’t really need to).
