A Raven Monologue is a short experimental silent story about a raven that does not know how to croak and his relationship with the people in the town.

This experiment was part of #MojikenCamp2, an internal upgrade program by Mojiken Studio to experiment with how to tell stories or to communicate an experience using a constrained work of interactive art.

A Raven Monologue Review

Despite how simple it may look, this holds a lot more than you might expect. This goes along as a regular storybook about a raven going out to socialize but soon goes deep into subverting expectations. Quickly going from a, “I’m viewing this cause I like how it looks and just want to see what happens” to “Okay…what is actually happening here”. This puts a high value on symbolism and letting the player interpret the meaning themselves. There really isn’t a wrong answer and anything anyone takes out of this is still right.

I absolutely loved all the illustrations and especially the music that perfectly matches. While this might not be directly in the game, the poem that does with this is very great as well. And despite not having any dialogue, you can easily tell what is being talked about and how the characters feel.

This is a truly beautiful game and I’m really glad that I managed to find this. Like their previous title, this is a free experience that doesn’t take up a huge chunk of your time. Just try to not play this if you’re having a bad day, it very well may make you cry afterwards.
