Afterburn
IN A NUTSHELL
- Easy to pick up. All you need is the mouse or a single stick with two buttons.
- Daily mini-campaign. Each day missions are a bit different than the last.
- Simple aircraft setup. 27 possible combinations to accomodate your play style.
- Arcade action. Score as much as you can, compete on the leaderboards.
- Quick to get into action. No deep story or cutscenes to suffer through, just dogfights.
- Quick installation. Minimum requirements but vibrant visuals.
CONTROLLER SUPPORT
The game works well with the mouse. XBox controllers are supported out of the box. Other controllers are supported using Steam Input, check out ? this guide for more info and if you wish to rebind the controls (there is NO rebinding in game).
DEVELOPER’S NOTE
As you can probably tell from this and my previous game, Furious Angels, I like flying things. I also like to make arcade-like games that are easy to pick up and gets you right into action with just a few keystrokes.
It is also hard to find a flight sim where dogfights are as fun as watching a Su-35 doing a cobra or watching the movie Stealth.
And that is what I’m trying to do with AFTERBURN: super quick arcade air combat. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.
Afterburn Review
I was a really big fan of Morfeo’s previous game, Furious Angels and have been waiting for this game for a long time and I’ve gotta say; totally worth the wait. I’ve been a huge fan of piloting games since Ace Combat on the PS2 and Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge on Xbox and this game honestly reminded me how much I love flying games! (Anyone got any recommendations? I’ve had a taste and I need more now! lol)
This game can be kind of frustrating to master (I was about ready to smash my face into the keyboard at attempt 250 but the sense of accomplishment I felt from finishing it was like nothing else.) but it’s control scheme is very intuitive, especially if you’ve played Furious Angels, and it’s very easy to pick up. I haven’t tried controller or joystick, but with a mouse (you don’t even need a keyboard at the moment but possible in the future it’ll be needed) to play this game without any issues. I have heard from others that it works just fine with a wide number of other controllers too if that’s more your style.
Now it definitely isn’t in a finished state right now. I think that the enemies should have a more varied entrances as it can be pretty easy to memorize when and where they’ll come from to take them out quite quickly, I wish there were more levels per day, and I think it could do with an unlimited wave based mode like Furious Angels has along side the campaign, and there are some other annoying quirks about the game. Honestly though I think that most of this can be overlooked because the game has been in earlyaccess for literally one day and I’m sure the developer will be making TONS of additions to the game as it matures.
As it is, I would absolutely say it’s worth every penny and I intend to stay on the top of the leaderboards as long as I can! 😀
