Automation Empire
Automation Empire is a simulation / management game all about efficiency and expansion. Start with nothing, and build up a massive interconnected industrial network of factories and machines. Economical transportation of resources will be essential to your success as an automation-engineer. Utilize every tool you have access to, including mine carts, drones. trucks, trains, and cargo rockets. Employ your ingenuity and creativity to plan out an efficient logistics network of machines to form a mechanical superorganism of production.
DESIGN COMPLEX SYSTEMS
Harness your creativity to engineer a beautiful machine of clockwork precision. Start with basic “A to B” systems utilizing simple delivery drones, but later, expand the complexity of your transportation-line as you construct an interwoven mesh of tracks in order to allocate all of your resources exactly where they need to go.
EXPAND YOUR PRODUCTION
Make it your mission to rout out all of the bottlenecks in your supply-chain. Extract and process precious metals and ores from the ground including gold, iron, and coal. Craft and refine your resources into more valuable products through the use of an optimized factory production-line.
RESEARCH NEW TECHNOLOGY
Upgrade your facility’s infrastructure as you discover new technologies by harnessing the power of the resources you extract. Throughout your engineering endeavors you’ll gain access to advanced automated machines and systems which will further compound your production capacity.
INTEGRATE WITH YOUR SURROUNDINGS
Work around your planet’s naturally occurring geological formations and rough terrain as you integrate your ever expanding industrial systems. Seven different planets, with differing biomes, each present unique landforms you must factor into your base’s layout.
Automation Empire Review
I know some of the reviews are mixed on this game, but I think it is a lot of fun. These types of games are basically puzzle games where you iterate on your design to make them more efficient and organized. This game definitely has some charm that sets it apart from the others. Some people are miffed about certain aspects like how the transfer pipes work and such, but those are just the rules of the puzzle. If you stop trying to fit this game into the same box as Factorio or Satisfactory then I think you can definitely have some fun.
The end-game for this is about moving volume of materials. Some weigh more than others. You have to decide if you want to refine materials or leave them in various other stages. As you move materials off the map you get money for them (which can decrease as you continue to sell) and they contribute to your 3-month rolling average of weight. Over-extending your build will quickly bankrupt you which means you have to give some thought to how you want to expand.
Conveyors don’t work more like Satisfactory than they do Factorio. They have strict rules and you cannot combine or split them. To do that you would need to use claws that run on rails along the ceiling making solving how to combine three outputs onto a single belt a little less straightforward but still very rewarding to figure-out. You often put materials into crates, then siphon them into raw storage, then refine, then crate, then siphon to storage and then crate for the drones to load on the truck. Again, these minor complexities make for some interesting designs that you have to figure out.
If you like these types of game but found Factorio too complex you might like this one. I don’t think you can get lost in the weeds like you can with Factorio. However expect to fumble around a little bit.
