Cat Quest

Cat Quest

Cat Quest is an open world RPG set in the pawsome world of cats! In search of your catnapped sister you pounce into the massive continent of Felingard – a world crafted in the style of overworld maps of yore and purring with cat-tastic characters, stories, and puns! Leap into a grand adventure in purrsuit of the evil Drakoth and your catnapped sister! Explore Felingard’s huge overworld map, risk life and limb delving into dungeons for epic loot, and lend a paw to a furry cast of characters in a flurry of side quests.
Combat in Cat Quest takes place entirely in real time, allowing you to get close to enemies with a slash of your blade, dodge roll to avoid a counter-attack, and then finish them off with powerful magic! Wield the ancient spells of Lightnyan, Flamepurr, and Healpaw to vanquish your foes! (Fur real!). Outfit your catventurer with a whole basket of equipment! Prefurr casting spells? Don an arcane hood, robes, and a staff to bolster your mana reserves! Want to protect yourself from attack? Deck out your catventurer with chainmail armor to increase your health and provide an extra level of protection. Weapons, armor, and spells can be mixed and matched to create the purrfect combinations for your playstyle!
The world of Felingard is littered with interesting places and people! Discover a possessed town whose residents lust for obscene amounts of meat, assist the mages Mewlin and Meowgan in their search to break a magic seal, and locate someone’s missing delivery of “House of Parchments” and “The Pouncing Dead”. Exploration is one of the main scratching posts of Cat Quest, and with locations such as Bermewda’s Triangle, the Furbidden Fields, and Pawt City to explore, it’s time to get pawing!

Cat Quest Review

I can only heartily recommend this game to everyone that is looking for some good time. Almost every dialogue has some cat pun in it, and despite that it manages not to get corney or trite. The story is okay… and for an Indi game its most certainly amazing.

The charming graphics and the colorful pallet of this game also nicely underline the jolly good feeling. Combat wise, the Screenshots on steam were a bit misleading, as most of the combat happens in the overworld and the the dungeons almost do the game a disservice. I sort of was expecting to find an item with which you find the secret passage ways, given how abundant they were, and how much the game expects you to find them.

Each Dungeon will remind you if you have cleared it, and even if you haven’t cleared it, if there are big chest you have been missing.

The Combat itself is rather simple, and I get a strong Secret of Mana or Landstalker, without the jumping, Vibe from it. You run around, you swing your sword, you dodge roll away from telegraphed attacks and you spice it up with up to 4 spells you can put into your loadout.

Admittedly I ended up playing the game with a controller, just because it was more laidback this way.

I can only suggest to give the Demo a try. If you like the good old way RPGs used to be… give this a go. Its quite fun. With the current price of 13bucks, without sale, I find it a bit steep. I think 10 bucks is a fair price for this game, so maybe you want to wait for another sale, but even at the asking price, I would recommend the game. But do try the demo first. Your progress carries over, and you will find out rather quickly if you like the game.

Summary
Cat Quest might not always hit its mark, but it’s a little game with a lot of heart. The story is sure to put a smile on your face and even though it falters in the gameplay department, it manages to be entertaining in the end. Also, the game is about heroic cats saving the world, so that alone should be reason enough to pick it up.
