In Clustertruck, the player controls a character from a first-person perspective. They are set to jump onto a moving line of trucks, avoiding obstacles and truck pile-ups and crashes. The player is unable to touch anything other than trucks, and will otherwise fail their task of reaching the goal at the end of the level.
On each stage, the player is scored based on how fast they reach a goal line and a number of style points based on various tricks, such as jumping off a truck that is currently in mid-air. The player’s cumulative score points can be used to purchase one of several abilities, such as a double jump or a quick boost of speed, which can then be used to either successfully pass more difficult levels or to improve one’s time and scoring on earlier ones.
Clustertruck Review
Clustertruck is a first-person view platformer with a very fun, yet simple objective, jump from truck to truck until you eventually reach the end of a level. Though lacking in a few features most FPV games usually have, this game is fun and will eventually enthrall you. Its graphics, controls, and appearance may initially appear to be bland and simplistic, but you’ll eventually realize how a lot was done with so little.
CT is a game that’s purely about gameplay, there’s no story here at all and while that may dissuade some from playing this game, I had no problem with that at all. CT’s control scheme is simple to the point where you won’t be using more than 5 buttons in the whole game. It’s possible to play (while using an xbox 360 controller) just using the left thumbstick and the A button, but some special abilities will eventually require the use of one or two more additional buttons.
Despite having a fun main campaign that consists of 90 levels and additional holiday levels, CT is a short game. I didn’t try to rush through the game and I still managed to beat it in three hours. Not only did it take me three hours, I was able to beat two thirds of the game in one night. Maybe it’s because I found the game to be that entertaining, but my experience with this game went by too quickly. There are some gamers out there that will enjoy the game due to being able to quickly play through the game and move onto something else, but at the same time there’ll be others out there that really like getting the most bang out of their buck.
To conclude, I highly enjoyed CT and I could see myself coming back at a later time to play the Christmas levels. CT is proof why many more people should pay more attention to indie gaming. It takes a simple formula, but still manages to create a fun and unique experience. I most definitely recommend this game.
