Fernbus Simulator

Fernbus Simulator

The Fernbus Coach Simulator is the first simulation of the very popular intercity buses. Thanks to the cooperation with FlixBus the Fernbus Coach simulator shows the daily life of a coach driver on the German Autobahn, highways and in more than 40 cities in great detail.

With a large and modern MAN Lion’s Coach Bus you experience the daily life of a long distance coach driver. Navigate through a complex Autobahn and road network to bus stations in the more than 40 implemented cities and stay in constant communication with the headquarters.

Be careful with the other car traffic during your trips on partially full German highways and control your bus safely by day and night during all seasons.
About 20.000 km of the German route network of FlixBus and over 40 cities were simulated. Time passes at a scale of 1:10, so that the individual tours last not too long.

Like in reality at the bus stations passengers already holding a valid ticket can get on right away while the other passengers have to buy a ticket from you.

Both MAN busses are equipped with original cockpits including all functions. The interior and exterior of the bus is modeled to the last detail. True to original passenger announcements provide a realistic atmosphere. Construction sites, traffic jams and accidents will challenge you as a bus driver to keep up with the schedule. The busses were tested and optimized by bus drivers and driving instructors.

Fernbus Simulator Review

Decent game. Not as good as Euro Truck Simulator 2 / American Truck Simulator, but those games have no buses. I’ve been looking for a nice bus/coach simulator, and this one seems to be the best one for me. I’ve tried OMSI 2 before, but I experienced a steep learning curve because it overcomplicates stuff right at the start.

Fernbus Simulator is notably easier to learn, and the arcade mode makes things accessible for the more casual player. I’m not amazed by the graphics, but they’re not that bad either. I’m driving the coaches with a keyboard, and it feels a tad clunky, more than ETS2/ATS. AI traffic isn’t very bad, but still acting weird. The career mode is a fun simple mode where you can create your own routes and earn some XP to unlock features like new buses and night driving. They seem to be pretty easy to unlock, but there’s also the exploration mode which unlocks the whole map (haven’t tried it). Checking in the passengers isn’t my favourite part, but once you’ve done it a few times, you know where to look for and it’s actually pretty fast. The timetables do seem a tad off though. While driving in cities I’m running behind schedule, but when driving larger distances on the Autobahn I’m running ahead of schedule. Speed limits occassionally change unexpectedly (no signs).

Knowing a thing or two about German helps, but it’s not really required.

My recommendations would be;
If you like driving and exploring the world, but not necessarily in a coach; go to ETS2/ATS (free demo!)
If you like a more detailled bus/coach simulator; OMSI2 is probably the best way to go (but beware, it’s complex)
If you like a more casual driving game and you really want coaches; take this one. Fernbus Simulator is a decent game.

Summary
Bus Simulator 18 could do with a lot more polish, and someone desperately needs to proof-read the dialogue captions, which rarely match what’s being spoken. But, like most of these niche sims, I’m glad it exists. It’s given me a chance to experience, in some way, what it’s like to be a bus driver, and I never really considered how stressful the job could be.
