Iconoclasts Review

Lets start with artwork. This pixel art is extremely beautiful and vibrant. Pixel art is timeless and will hold up practically forever. The characters have a nice attention to detail with the animations to their bodies. Some of the enemy designs are kind of “samey” but the game isn’t long enough for the designs to ever feel repetitive.

Soundtrack is great. All of the tracks fit the emotion in the scenes very well in my opinion. That massive blast of sound going into the title screen can scare the hell out of you though.

Story is overall good, but really hard to follow. Maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m just dumb. But I had a hard time following certain parts of the story. Overall it was a good story though, which can be rare for metroidvania platformers.

Difficulty was overall pretty low. Not really a complaint since I have a bad habit of putting hard games down and forgetting about them, but being too easy can be an issue for some people. No boss took me more than 2 tries on Normal difficulty and I never died in the overworld. Believe me I’m not trying to brag, I’m honestly pretty bad at 2D platformers even though I love them so much.

Performance was perfect. There were no graphics option beyond windowed sizes and full screen. Not that it really needs any options. Framerate was locked at 60 for my entire playthrough and it never slowed down or stuttered.

Honestly I feel like Iconoclasts is very underrated. Sure, the review aggregation on Steam is Very Positive, but honestly there’s not enough people talking about this game online. I believe it went under the radar for most people. I’ll certainly be doing my part to spread awareness.
