Little Dragons Cafe

Little Dragons Cafe

Little Dragons Café opens with a twin brother and sister learning to cook and manage a small café with their mother. All was routine until one morning when the twins discover that their mother won’t wake up. Suddenly, a strange old man appears and tells them that they must raise a dragon to save her. Working with three quirky café employees, the twins must wrangle a dragon and run the family business while finding a way to save their mother.

In Little Dragons Café, players can choose to play as either sibling Ren or Rin. The story-driven gameplay features a balance of three elements:

Manage your café – Run your own café by preparing tasty dishes, serving your customers, and managing a colorful cast of eccentric staff and visitors.

Explore the world – Discover an entirely new world filled with wildlife, secrets, and dangers while collecting ingredients and recipes to enhance your café menu.

Raise a Dragon – Care for and train your very own dragon as he grows from baby to adult. Explore, hunt, and uncover new areas with your faithful companion.

Little Dragons Cafe Review

As a lover of relaxing games like Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing, I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The world is adorable, as are the characters. Being able to fly freely is something I’ve really wanted in a game, and Little Dragon’s Café has a great mechanic for flying. Although I didn’t like that the characters make wide turns, I quickly got used to the controls. In fact, this helps during battle because you can buy your dragon time to kill the creature by making it do a wide turn. The story isn’t amazing, but it’s rather cute. Overall, I do like the variety of characters, although many of them were kind of mean and unpleasant at first.

As you work in the café, many of your teammates get in your way. There’s enough room to avoid them sometimes, but when the café is very busy later in the game, you bump into them much more often. By default, I would prefer your character be able to push them out of the way instead of them pushing you. Moreover, I find it annoying that the other staff members often stop working, and you must talk to them to get them to serve customers again.

The world is kind of small. The benefit of this is that you can more easily remember where to find certain ingredients, but it gets kind of tedious after a while when you don’t have anywhere new to explore. There is an area that is currently not available to the player, so it’s likely that more areas will be added in the future.

Overall, despite these complaints, I really liked this game, and it’s a great game for anyone that likes relaxing, farming, gathering type of games. I personally wouldn’t purchase this game for $60, so I advise to get it on sale.

Summary
In many ways, Little Dragons Cafe doesn't really fit a modern mold. It's conservative with the goals it gives you, spacing out progression so much that it's easy to get impatient with it. None of your individual tasks are very complex or challenging, either. But when the right parts come together, it can be fun to succeed in its charming world, and it's easy to lose track of time hunting for hidden recipes or rare ingredients to make the best dishes possible. If anything, it's a lovely game to relax to--even if you're forced into a slow pace.
