Lost Frontier is a turn-based strategy game set in a fantasy-western setting filled with improbable technology and the supernatural. Can you survive with just your wit and a six-gun at your side?
Lost Frontier features a 24 mission campaign, which follows the exploits of a band of mercenaries as they hunt a notorious desperado. Throughout the story, your tactics will be tested as the game challenges you to master the use of 20 unique unit types. You’ll take command of a wide range of Wild West forces, from Gunslingers and Cavalry to civil-war era Cannons and Gatling Guns. Or, employ more exotic weapons like steam-powered Gyrocopters and Zeppelins, and enlist the help of dark forces like Werewolves and Necromancers. Careful and strategic use of your resources will be needed to best your merciless opponents.
To help even the odds, you’ll take control of a “Living Legend”, who acts as your commander on the battlefield and helps to specialize your combat style. Prefer long-range engagements? Enlist the help of Wyatt “Long-Arm” Wilcox, a master sharpshooter who’s long-range units are peerless. Each of 9 unique Legends are available, and acquire perks as you complete missions, steadily unlocking their full potential.
Once you’ve mastered the game, 20 challenge missions await. These are punishingly difficult battles meant to push you and your Legend’s abilities to the limit. Or, feel free to set up custom games against the AI or with your friends via hot seat multiplayer. Set up the rules, choose your legends, and let the bullets fly!
Lost Frontier Review
Before you start to play campaign, you have to choose from three different classes, or how they call it in game, a Living Legend. It can be John McGraw, who is a master of the revolver. He brings the most out of close range gun-based units. Or you can go with a Wyatt Wilcox, who is a sharpshooter specialist and his forces specialize in long-range engagements, so he gives bonuses to riflemen, cannons and gatling guns. And finally, there is an option to choose Doc Valentine, who is a professional doctor on the frontier and this guy knows how to get the most out of doctors and chuck wagons to keep his units on the battlefield healthy and supplied.
Each chapter of the campaign starts on the map, with an opening dialogue, explaining us the current situation and the objective that we have to complete. At the beginning of each chapter you will already have few units to start with and then you can hire even more from the saloon. If you don’t have your own saloon, you will need to conquer one by simply attacking that building. After each turn you will be granted with some money. The amount of money is determined by some special units that you have on the battlefield and how many buildings you have already conquered.
After completing the campaign, you can dive into the challenging missions, which are really tough and there is a reason why they are called so. It was designed to play directly after the main story, so don’t bother yourself to start it before finishing the main campaign. Finally, if you are completely done with every solo activities here and you still wanna squeeze everything from this game, you can call your friend and play some local custom maps in a hot seat mode.
Well, it’s just a cute and colourful game, without any heavy 3D objects or whatever. It looks very simple but adorable at the same time and all these illustration of the units are professionally executed. Shortly speaking, nothing to be impressed about but also nothing to hate.
For a small mobile game like this it has pretty nice and quality music on the background. Even the gun shots sound pretty realistic and that really matters in a game like this one. It’s also important to state that it doesn’t annoy you with a repetitive notes, which could be a huge distraction from the intense gameplay.
