Narcos Rise of the Cartels Review
Despite still not being fully clear how my counteract moves are overcome so easily at times, the complex challenge this game offers, is sublime. Think XCOM enhanced (as one of my viewers correctly mentioned to me).
The core game mechanics are actually quite simple and the tutorial reflects this, but really the game is challenging because you have to think so many steps ahead of your opponent and moves ahead of yourself.
There are not many locations in the game, but each one is quite large and is reutilised many times over with different mission types, starting locations and enemy positions…they are the same, but they do feel different.
I would like to see more locations added, perhaps in DLC or via mods but I have no idea if this is going to happen, they key appeal appears to be around the TV show and obvious limitations could be a factor here. That being said despite noticing it, it hasn’t been a huge issue for me so far; but in time it may well become more of a hindrance.
This game really could be like Marmite; you’ll either love it or hate it.
If you’re not entertained by turn based strategy games then the 3rd party counteract move will not be enough to sway you, but if you do like turn based strategy & you are looking for something new and unique, especially if you relish a seriously hardcore tactical challenge then this is going to be right up your alley…if you’re not put off by the level of violence, bad language and frequent drug references.
If you are a fan of the TV show, already like a challenging Turn based strategy game then just get this game now you will not be disappointed.
