Nostos

Nostos

Nostos, developed by NetEase, is a PC and VR cross-platform multiplayer survival game with an open-world where elements of Oriental animated films are incorporated. The simulation technology of real physical environment, giant and seamless world map, freely moving system and oriental animated film art style build up a “Pioneer” image for this game.

Players will play the role of an explorer in Nostos to adventure, combat, build up and save the world with their partners. A variety of terrains, miraculous ecological communities, and meteorological system, special doomsday costumes, as well as realistic combat experience will offer players extraordinary immersive gaming experiences.

With its own unique ecosystem, the land of Nostos witnesses the passing of day and night and the four seasons, and the spread of grassland, desert and snowfield. In this world, grass seeds grow, animals reproduce, and it is you who decides the way you are going to explore and survive.

The seemingly peaceful land is actually surrounded by the toxic coralseas which are corroding the sole habitat. Creatures from the coralseas are the enemies of the survivors.

In the game, you will need to survive with limited resources: restore physical strength with food and water, collect materials and build houses, and use melee weapons or long-range firearms to fight against monsters. Meanwhile, you’ll be working with other players on the quest to discover the historical sites, the remains of war and the secrets of the world.

Features:

● With a series of physics rules in real life being introduced, players can freely explore the game world, climbing cliffs or driving vehicles.
● Nostos shows a lively open world where organisms in the ecosystem can breed on their own. A sapling planted long ago might grow into a forest.
● The survival game which is set in the last days of the civilization may gradually reveal the stories of the mysterious ancestors on the land of Nostos.
● Nostos shows the world’s end with some sci-fi elements incorporated. It adopts the style of the traditional oriental animated films.
● Nostos is NetEase’s first self-developed VR multiplayer online game with an open world setting, supporting players on both PC and VR platforms playing together.

Nostos Review

Tried this with an i7 and 980ti on medium settings and it still ran pretty bad. Played with the original rift and just…wow. I could tell I was going to refund it at the calibration screen pretty much. If you manage to actually get to the lobby you get a message asking if you want to enable or disable voice chat and once you choose…that’s it. You either have to listen to annoying/rude/racist people screaming in your ear like they’re right next to you even though they’re like a mile away in-game or hear nothing from anybody the ENTIRE TIME…no way to disable or change your mind. Only reason I even know about that is because my significant other enabled theirs. It’s atrocious.

They have you go through these portals to decide if you want to make your own world or join one that already exists and…they just don’t work most of the time? You can’t actually invite friends even if they accept your invitation. Everything’s broken pretty much. The world once I actually got into it had no direction and felt completely empty and boring. Combat just…yeah I’m not even gonna start on that. Graphics were alright for VR and I got to pet a weird velociraptor dog but that’s it on the positives.

Also…what kind of Open World MMO doesn’t let you at least customize your character, if not make your own? There’s a portal in the lobby that I was told was for that purpose but there’s really only 4 or 5 really basic skins and hair styles [colors, really…] that you have to unlock somehow. But you’re still gonna look the same as everyone else, just slightly better I guess.

I was really hoping this would at least have potential so I could wait for it to get updated and come back later but I just don’t think it’ll be worth it even when it functions correctly. Really disappointed with this one.
