Nova Drift is a ‘rogue-lite’ space shooter that melds a classic arcade experience with modern action-RPG elements like theory-crafting and deep player choice. Your ship rapidly evolves as you defeat enemies, allowing you to shape its abilities and weaponry to your desires in a matter of minutes. Unlike many ARPGs which can absorb hundreds of hours of time, Nova Drift allows you to take a ship build from inception to execution in a single game session.

Nova Drift Review
Here’s what Nova Drift really does and why you should play it:
It throws weapons of mass destruction at you and expects you to blast hordes of enemies. It’s just… those weapons don’t come assembled. That’s your job. While playing, you level incredibly quick (levels are specific to a run) and grab upgrades for your ship by the minute. These offer significant changes to the way you play.
Let me give you an example of how varied these can get. Let’s say you grab the Railgun. You want the biggest and baddest one you can make, so you grab all the upgrades for damage, size and velocity until you fire an absolute monster of a weapon. But what if your motto had been more railguns, more fun? Slap on additional projectiles. More. You could load up your mines to explode with a spread-shot of your primary weapon – and put some on your Allies too. Suddenly the screen is full of railguns in every direction.
Nova Drift is about rapid escalation of firepower. Your puny starter weapon won’t stay weak for more than half a minute before you’re already creating your own customized and overpowered abomination of screen clearing destructive power. Yet regardless of how strong your ship gets, you’re also incredibly vulnerable and the game somehow manages to be difficult at the same time as it hands out godlike powers to you.
That’s what Nova Drift does. It tickles the tinkerer in you, makes you toy with upgrades and who knows, you might even discover unusual combinations. Like the time I coupled a Pulse weapon with a Siege Upgrade. It’s for when one explosion isn’t enough. Or… hundreds really.
There’s some meta progression in that you constantly unlock new upgrades as you play. These aren’t power upgrades but just more tools to go crazy with.
Get this game, if you enjoy arcadey games with surprising complexity. Get it, if you like to experiment.
