Railroad Corporation Review

The developers added the option to remove timers, making this game a bit more tolerable. I’m changing this to a thumbs up, but with the caveat that this game is quite casual (IMO, not a bad thing). Games like Sid Meier’s Railroads and Railway Empire offer more gameplay features, however. If you’re looking for a hardcore-esque Railroad Tycoon, this is not it. If you’re content to just placing track, setting up lines, researching upgrades, and buying structures, then you may enjoy this title. The Free Play mode isn’t bad and gives you some decent options when setting up the game. More maps are added as you complete campaign missions.

It’s more akin to Sid Meier’s Railroads than Railway Empire and based on the state of this game, I’d rather play Sid Meier’s Railroads. At present there’s no sandbox mode and the timed campaign missions are frustrating. There are no difficulty settings. There is no way to place signals. Trains move through each other at stations, so you don’t need multiple tracks. There’s no way to stick the camera to a train and watch it chug along. It feels more like a time management flash game than an empire manager.

In future updates I’d like to see the addition of campaign difficulty settings…easy would extend or eliminate timed goals altogether, and so on. I’m not a person who likes timed missions or being rushed and at present, that’s the only game mode available to me, so obviously I don’t find it very fun.

This game needs a lot more time to cook. It’s Early Access, so this isn’t a review but more of a recommendation. Railway Empire is currently the superior game by far…save your money and go play that instead, (at least for right now).
