Super Animal Royale
Super Animal Royale is an intense, strategic, top-down 2D twist on the battle royale genre. Up to 64 adorably murderous animals fight tooth and claw (and machine gun) across diverse, exotic biomes, each vying for top dog (or top cat, or top sloth…you get the idea).
The top down view and streamlined mechanics make this the most accessible battle royale yet, while surprisingly deep strategy and a high skill cap rewards more advanced players. The game has also been optimized to run smoothly whether you play on a Macbook or a beastly gaming PC. The island and roster of genetically engineered super animals are constantly (ahem) evolving with updates. Your super animal can be customized with new outfits, tombstones, death explosions, weapons, dance moves, and more, so you can look your best as you do your worst.

Super Animal Royale Review
I’m not normally into “Battle Royale” style games but this top-down 2D spin on the genre has gotten my attention. In the typical Battle Royal fashion, you’re one of 64 animals dropped onto an island where the end goal is to kill other the animals (and do the winner dance!) and your reward is ‘DNA’ to unlock other animal types to play as, different dances, and lots of cosmetic stuff to customize your animal. There’s lots to unlock and it’s all pretty random and you get access to more DNA drops as you level up also.
At present there’s a solo mode, where you go into the match alone against 63 other players and bots, or you can team up with a buddy in Duo mode. There is a squad mode but it’s not available until there is a high enough playerbase to support that mode. The devs have also included some pretty nefarious bots to deal with to fill up the matches if there aren’t enough players. The game controls very well with a keyboard and mouse and reminds me of stuff like Hotline Miami and Nuclear Throne. Matches are quick, and the challenge of staying alive as the poison gas closes in on the island is thrilling as you run about collecting whatever you can to defeat the competition.
The art style is colorful and the animations are very smooth and the overall polish of the game is amazing. The sound effects are cute and remind me of the old WORMS games I used to play on the Playstation back in 1999, and the soundtrack itself is pretty fantastic. The developers are very active in communicating with the players about working on the game, some even play the game (they have blue names in-game) and I appreciate that a lot, and I can’t wait to see what they add over time.
