Transistor Review

There are many extremely well-written in-depth reviews of this game, so I’m not going to attempt to put out an equally informative review. But I will tell you that I adore this game.

Transistor is utterly amazing. The graphics are stunning, surpassed only by the music, vocals and voice acting.

The controls are highly intuitive, as is the entire interface for configuring your functions, limiters (allowing an optional increase in XP gained in exchange for a higher difficulty), etc. One might say “easy to learn, hard to master”, but this game does it so much better. Throughout the game are countless opportunities to adjust your choice of functions, experiment with different function combinations, prioritize the upgrades you desire over ones that don’t fit your current playstyle (even if you decide to adjust your playstyle at any point), choose limiters that either interfere with your playstyle or actually don’t matter to you at all, etc.

And unlike some games, however you choose to combine limiters and functions, none of them ever feel like simple filler material, nor are there any banned combinations because they would be over- or underpowered. The combinations are endless and you have full control over how you wish to play. To top it all off, the storyline is engaging and highly immersive. Even after finishing the story and game for the first time, it’s worth it to play again – multiple times even.

Transistor is one of my favorite games of all time. If I had to buy the game again I’d pay full price for it without a second thought. Same goes for the soundtrack DLC.
