BirdGut
BirdGut is a hand-drawn 2d puzzle-platformer set inside the internal organs of a bird.
A bee hatches in the hive, but something’s wrong. Born different from the others, the bee is exiled from the hive and forced to survive the world on its own. That is, until a bird attacks and eats it.
But that’s only the beginning… Inside the bird, all of the bugs that it eats are brainwashed and put to work in fantastical, mechanical factories that exist in the place of its organs, except for the outcast bee, whose very disability prevents them from being brainwashed. The bee takes it upon itself to destroy the massive bird from the inside out, and free all the enslaved critters within.

BirdGut Review
BirdGut is a simple (yet frustrating) platformer game with puzzle elements and light combat. The style is simplistic and the price is free with a somewhat humorous vibe to it. The plot follows a ret*rded, malformed bee that is kicked out of the hive and swallowed by a bird….Now you must escape the factory-like innards of the bird and earn your freedom in a world where all devoured bugs are brainwashed but you.
The difficulty of this game stays within a range of easy to frustrating. The platforming is basic, though you may end up slipping up in several areas…but this pales to when you’re expected to complete areas in a single life (or do it all over again) like the arena segment or the automated ride. There’s also a maze in this game that will test your resolve…and your patience.
If there are any complaints other than the difficulty, it’s that I found various areas where the textures seem to suddenly appear over your character’s body when just around it, the character appears over the object in question. There is a box early on that if you push to the right, you won’t be able to push it to the left (as you need to do), I’ve discovered an invisible wall/ramp left to the area where you need to break open a pipe with expired milk, and if you save and quit in the middle of a puzzle, expect to start up at the beginning of the area with the puzzle elements solved when you come back…meaning you may be trapped and have to redo the area.
Bugs (no pun intended) aside, I do recommend BirdGut. It’s clearly a labor of love and was made mostly by a single guy. Gameplay is between 2-3 hours, so it’s not too long…but not too short either. Boot this one up if you’re looking for a short, yet somewhat challenging game.
