KurtzPel Review
So here’s the things, fellas. Kurtzpel is not a finished game. It is early access still, and you can definitely tell. The PvE content feels a bit repetitive after only a little while, which is probably why the drop rates are cranked pretty low.
For other critiques, the fact that all equipment is the same sucks. Every item is a carbon copy, and at max upgrade they are all identical so they’re all just skins. The game is crying out for transmog and item differentiation, but again it’s early access and the devs have been good at listening to us, so I have no doubts we’ll see some of that in the future. Something like items with less karmas/sub karmas but higher base stats would be great. Especially some weapons with different scalings so I can run gauntlet/staff without having to feel like I’m wasting stats (which are locked behind a rebirth ticket for $10, which I’d recommend spending as an initial investment).
As for other gripes unrelated to items, we want raids. In addition, parties of more than 2 people. I have a group of three friends, but apparently if I want to play with them all, ♥♥♥♥ me.
Now on to the good things which are the reason why this review remains a recommendation.
To summarize, the reason why I believe this game deserves peoples’ time is because it shows an incredible amount of potential. For all of its flaws (which it does have), it has a combat system that is very VERY solid, especially considering that MMO-style pvp is not a concept that is explored enough. If Blade and Soul pvp is your thing, you’ll be pleased to know that Kurtzpel captures the same feelings, albeit not exactly. It is genuinely fun, the classes (karmas) all feel very solid and their skills are a joy to use. Animations (and the cancelling thereof) is done well, as though the people developing actually have an idea of what fun cancelling and animations should look like.
In addition, there are no ugly characters. While I understand that this is the appeal of the game for some people, others will be pleased to note that the art and the characters all look quite good. More options for outfits and an in game source to spend the thousands of excess CP you’ll accumulate would also be grand. More MMO and drop ♥♥♥♥ in general would be nice, since right now we just have tons of CP sitting around collecting dust. But anyways, what else is good?
Its a great game with room to grow and a lot of really fun mechanics that, given respect, have potential to make something truly great. Sink some time, see if you like it. It’s free after all, so it’s more than worth your time.
