Brass Brigade

Brass Brigade

Brass Brigade is a cartoon, World War 2, third-person shooter that blends the gameplay of classic WWII shooters like Battlefield 1942/Battlefield Heroes with the customizable bot matches of Ravenfield. You can control the parameters of instant-action style matches with as many bots as your machine can handle!

Grab your helmet, lock and load your rifle, and prepare to enlist in the Brass Brigade, an homage to classic WWII action games of yester-year. Inspired by genre staples of the early-to-mid 2000s, Brass Brigade lets you join the nation of your choosing in the world’s largest armed conflict. Brass Brigade offers a highly customizable and scalable gameplay experience that lets you enjoy these beautifully cartoony reimaginings of historical battles just the way you want!

Featuring

  • 5 historical nations, including the United States, Great Britain, The Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, and The Empire of Japan.

Brass Brigade Review

The game is a fun, cartoony WWII themed third person shooter that will serve as an enjoyable, globe spanning light diversion that is a great little filler as is, and is teetering on must have status for WWII game fans.

It’s a good looking game, and the abstract battlefields look and feel right for the historical battles they represent. The cartoon GIs look right, the Russians, Brits, Germans and Japanese forces all are evocative and thankfully each has an historically plausible loadout for the role they play. Nicely done here.

Gameplay is solid, the different classes have enough variety to add interest, and many parameters regarding bot aggressiveness and effectiveness, ticket counts and respawns, point capture nerfs are all adjustable. This is good because the default settings are pretty brutal, and I’ve found that toning the AI down and other adjustments make for a less frenetic, more entertaining game. It also lets you tinker with stuff like availability of vehicle and support fires.

Sadly there is no way I can see to save changes made, so each session requires adjustment, and what works on one map may not work as well on another. If the player could save multiple settings and name them (“bulge no allied tanks”) for each battlefield, that would be a great help. There are also a few things I’d like to tinker with that aren’t adjustable, like support cool down times and tank toughness.

The lack of a meaningful campaign, no co-op and a generous but finite selection of maps might limit long term interest, but even as a quick single session diversion the game is a winner. If these issues are addressed by the dev or Workshop support, Brass Brigade will be a great buy at the price.

Summary
Overall, it does what it sets out to do, it just needs polish, and hopefully some more stuff. It works well enough as a distraction, and I don't regret the money I spent on it, I'd just love to see the rough edges buffed out.
