Fallout 3
Fallout 3 is the third main entry in the Fallout series and marks a significant departure from previous Fallout games. Indeed, unlike its predecessors, it now utilises 3D graphics, a first-person perspective and real-time combat, replacing the previous turn-based, 2D format. The game itself is an action RPG, set in a post-apocalyptic world, and the main story occurs in the year 2277. This story mode allows for character customization and is accessible to new players, because it is not a direct sequel to Fallout 2 and does not require knowledge of that game’s plot.
Vault-Tec engineers have worked around the clock on an interactive reproduction of Wasteland life for you to enjoy from the comfort of your own vault. Included is an expansive world, unique combat, shockingly realistic visuals, tons of player choice, and an incredible cast of dynamic characters. Every minute is a fight for survival against the terrors of the outside world — radiation, Super Mutants, and hostile mutated creatures. From Vault-Tec, America’s First Choice in Post Nuclear Simulation.
At Vault-Tec, we realize that the key to reviving civilization after a global nuclear war is people. Our best minds pooled their efforts to produce an advanced version of Radiant AI, America’s First Choice in Human Interaction Simulation. Facial expressions, gestures, unique dialog, and lifelike behavior are brought together with stunning results by the latest in Vault-Tec technology.
Feeling like a dastardly villain today, or a Good Samaritan? Pick a side or walk the line, as every situation can be dealt with in many different ways. Talk out your problems in a civilized fashion, or just flash your Plasma Rifle.
Witness the harsh realities of nuclear fallout rendered like never before in modern super-deluxe HD graphics. From the barren Wasteland, to the danger-filled offices and metro tunnels of DC, to the hideous rotten flesh of a mutant’s face.
Fallout 3 Review
I’m writing this review mainly because I don’t know what everybody else is talking about. Fallout 3 runs fine for me in Windows 10. I don’t know, maybe I have the GOTY edition or something and that makes a difference? Anyway, I’ve been playing for 10 hours or so with not one crash or glitch of any kind.
As for the gameplay, I don’t have anything to add that hasn’t been said by others, I’m sure. I’ll just say that at first I didn’t like it much because I had no feel for the combat. But I reached a point where I was limping along with maybe 2 hitpoints left, looking desperately for a bed to sleep in in the subway because I had no Stimpaks and most of my body was crippled…
That experience won me over, as I finally found a bed, figured out (oh alright, lucked into) a clever way to dispatch the nearby feral mutants, and recovered my health in order to fight another day. I’ve been hooked ever since. Now I have a good feel for what I can manage and what I can’t, so I’m much more comfortable in my skin than I was before. That probably doesn’t help anyone decide whether to buy the game or not, other than to let you/them know that there IS a genuine “experience” waiting in the game, just as with Thief, System Shock, and other classics of what I think of as the “literary” FPS genre. (I use that word because to say “FPS/RPG” or something like that wouldn’t be accurate…Thief, for example, is not an RPG in the way we typically think of RPG’s, yet Fallout 3 has close ties to it in some ways and Fallout 3 IS an RPG. Anyway, I digress…)
Fallout 3 is a terrific game once you get your head wrapped around it. Until you do, it can seem kind of overwhelming, but hang in there and you will be well rewarded…IF you can get it to run like it does for me, I guess: flawlessly and smoothly.
