Fort Triumph
Fort Triumph is a challenging medieval fantasy turn-based tactics game in which you lead a band of heroes and face the chance of permanent death at any moment. Outsmart deadly foes with tactical ingenuity, using your surroundings both for cover and weapons in order to guide your party through perilous adventures. In Fort Triumph, every crate and every tree is a potential weapon in the hands of experienced tacticians: in order to succeed, you will have to burn, freeze, topple, kick around or outright destroy your surroundings at the right moment.
- Hardcore tactical turn-based gameplay – You lead a chosen party of heroes, each with a different set of abilities and a unique playstyle. Your party of heroes will face challenges and win missions by completing diverse objectives in tiled procedural maps. Many will fall, but others will rise to take their place!
- Fully-interactive environments – at your disposal. Push, topple, grapple, burn, freeze and crash your way through interactive levels that play into your tactics.
- Strategic gameplay – Choose between four factions and play on a strategic world map where you can build your base, recruit heroes and units, get hold of resources and buildings, find rare artifacts, and fight against a rival AI enemy for control over the map.
- Skill tree hero progression – As your heroes gain experience, they learn new skills and abilities, making them more versatile in combat. Since each hero is unique, the right combination of heroes in a party is crucial to victory, and you will need to balance your heroes’ strengths and weaknesses to bring out their full potential.
- Procedurally-generated content – Fort Triumph features flexible world maps with variable locations and events. Tactical missions are procedurally generated to ensure each battle is unique and calls for a new plan.
Fort Triumph Review
The writing on the game is fantastic and very humouous. Some of the guys read Terry Pratchett and you can definitely see the influence there.
Combat feels challenging and satifying. The fact that you can use the environmental items like trees, barrels, posts etc. as weapons makes it so much fun. Trying to find new ways to kill/stun multiple enemies has become a bit of a hobby of mine.
The campaign map is lively and there are lots of mission to do there that will keep you busy. You can also pick and choose which fights to take on, unless you get set upon by a wandering band. There’s a good variety of maps for an early access game and more should be coming to increase the variety. It’s also full of random encounters, items and people for you to meet.
Leveling is rewarded with a choice between two new abilities. At about level 5 or 6 you will run out of abilities you ladies can learn but again more are in the works.
The story missions are a step up from the average skermish type battles and involve certain objectives. Each one has a different objective and reveals more of the main story. There’s still plenty of work for the guys to do on this as they add new chapters but what we have so far is solidly written and full of the games unique humour.
The game still has bugs as you might expect in an early access title but it’s more polished than you average EA offering.
When I first heard about this game I was really excited and I’m still just as excited now that it’s been released to a wider audience. I’d definitely recommend picking it up as even with the current built you’ll have plenty of hours of entertainment for your money.
