Garry’s Mod
Garry’s Mod is a physics sandbox. There aren’t any predefined aims or goals. We give you the tools and leave you to play. You spawn objects and weld them together to create your own contraptions – whether that’s a car, a rocket, a catapult or something that doesn’t have a name yet – that’s up to you. You can do it offline, or join the thousands of players who play online each day. If you’re not too great at construction – don’t worry! You can place a variety of characters in silly positions. But if you want to do more, we have the means.
The Garry’s Mod community is a tremendous source of content and has added hundreds of unique modes to the game. In Trouble In Terrorist Town, you can be a detective solving an online murder as criminals attempt to cover up their homicides. Be a ball, a plant, a chair, or anything else in Prop Hunt’s elaborate, shape-shifting game of Hide & Seek. Elevator: Source is gaming’s first elevator thrill ride, delivering players to airlocks and kitten dance parties. We have one of the most vibrant Steam Community Workshops, with over 300’000 models, maps, and contraptions to download. It has everything from new tools to improve your builds, to guns that fire rainbow-tinged nuclear blasts from space. Take as much or as little as you need: it’s all free.
Garry’s Mod Review
The main mode of play is called Sandbox (free mode). In it there are several tools, weapons and options distributed in menus so that the player can tinker with the various contents and physically interconnect them however they want. The physgun (object manipulation), the toolgun and the camera (taking screenshots and shooting effects) are the focus of this experiment. The tools and objects are arranged in the spawn menu (“Menu Q”) and in a second layer of options in the context menu (“Menu C ”).
Sandbox is pretty straight forward and what you would expect. You choose a map and mess around in the world. You can spawn NPCs from Half Life 2, along with ragdolls and props. You can give yourself any weapon that exists from Half Life 2 as well. The two weapons you’ll be using the most are the Physics Gun and the Tool Gun. The Physics Gun is a far more powerful version of the Gravity Gun from Half Life 2. Using it, you can manipulate any physical object. You can turn it, throw it, drown it, you name it. The Tool Gun allows you to do a massive variety of things that I can’t simply describe in a single paragraph. You can weld objects together, inflate ragdolls, and MANY other things that are extremely useful.
GMOD’s UI is pretty clean and simple, which works fine. The graphics look a bit dated, but can be fixed with mods. For those who can’t download many mods, they may have to stick with the nostalgic Source graphics, which may make people upset.
The game relies on modifications and the player to make the gameplay. The game puts itself in the players’ hands, which can lead to quality issues. The game can be unstable at times and requires other game files for it to work properly at times. Despite this, it can have some hilarious and fun gameplay that can make memories you’ll never forget. Overall, I give the gameplay an 8 for the fun mods, but the reliance on the community along with the stability and space usage brings it down.
