Hunt Showdown
Hunt Showdown is a competitive first-person PvP bounty hunting game with heavy PvE elements, from the makers of Crysis. Set in the darkest corners of the world, it packs the thrill of survival games into a match-based format. Savage, nightmarish monsters roam the Louisiana swamps, and you are part of a group of rugged bounty hunters bound to rid the world of their ghastly presence. Banish these creatures from our world, and you will be paid generously—and given the chance to buy more gruesome and powerful weapons. Fail, and death will strip you of both character and gear. Your experience, however, remains in your pool of hunters—called your Bloodline—always.
Hunt’s competitive, match-based gameplay mixes PvP and PvE elements to create a uniquely tense experience where your life, your character, and your gear are always on the line. At the beginning of each Bounty Hunt match, depending on whether you have chosen team play or solo play, up to five teams of two or ten solo players set out to track their monstrous targets. Once they’ve found and defeated one of these they will receive a bounty—and instantly become a target for every other Hunter left on the map. If you don’t watch your back, you’ll find a knife in it, and your last memory will be of someone else walking away with your prize. The higher the risk, the higher the reward–but a single mistake could cost you everything.
Hunt Showdown Review
Talk about an atmospheric gameplay experience, Hunt Showdown is a gorgeous horror shooter stealth game with the sole intent of having the players immersed in a chilling western environment where each single match could be the last.
Right off the bat, this is not a game that belongs in the oversaturated Battle Royale market. No. Hunt Showdown is a very unique arena shooter that involves both PvE and PvP. In fact, the remarkable aesthetic and art style are breathtakingly amazing. Combined with the absolutely fantastic sound design, the world presented is awe-inspiring and scary beyond imagination.
With only 1 opened world map, 2 bosses and only a handful of enemies, there just doesn’t seem to be a lot of variety at the moment. The gunplay, on the other hand, is marvelous! Though the combat is slow paced, the shooting is one of the best aspects of the game, making you really concentrate your fire when needed.
All the many details implemented, such as the different weather style, unnerving sounds (damn twig snaps), and even the user interface, make it a special kind of horror. All throughout the match there is never a death count or actual indication of what exactly is going down. You might hear gunshots in the distance thinking people are duke it out, but you won’t know the outcome. That makes for really good tension.
Honestly, Crytek have a lot to improve here, especially when it comes to the performance, but it has the potential of being a very solid multiplayer game. Give it a try!
