Killer Queen Black
Killer Queen Black is an intense multiplayer action/strategy platformer for up to eight players. Hop on the snail, hoard berries, or wipe out the enemy’s queen to claim victory.
Killer Queen Black, a new take on the arcade eSport Killer Queen, has been rebuilt from the ground up and optimized for console. The gameplay is immediately recognizable and familiar, yet introduces exciting new mechanics and online play for the home audience.
But what’s a Queen without her loyal subjects?
Workers excel in adaptability, making them essential for game-winning objectives. While initially defenseless, by grabbing a berry and taking it to the gates, Workers can boost their speed, become Soldiers, wielding maces, swords, shields, and laser rifles, or even do both and transform into deadly-quick aggressors. Choose whichever form helps the team pursue one of three different types of victories.
Win three times, and the game’s over. Ascend the ranks, and there’s a chance to become the dreaded Black team.
Any given time there is one Black team playing in the world, clad in special, glowing outfits. Once dethroned by up-and-comers, the usurpers become the new Black team. These nail-biting competitions will be broadcasted at all times, making the ultimate team a coveted, constantly-shifting goal.
Three Paths to Victory
In Killer Queen Black, a team can win a game in three different ways.
- * Economic victory: Economic Victories task Workers with collecting berries on the battlefield and bringing them back to their home base.
- * Military victory: Slay the opposing team’s Queen three times with either a Queen or a Soldier to earn a Military Victory.
- * Snail victory: One snail waits in the middle of each map. Slowly ride it back to base and secure a Snail Victory.
Killer Queen Black Review
The game supports up to 4 local or 8 (local+) online players, and is designed to be played in short 4v4 matches.
Any missing human player can be replaced by a bot. This flexibility gives you a multitude of options: Play alone and hope to find 7 nice randoms, play alone with 1 or more bots, play with 4 friends and build an unbeatable team annihilating anyone that dares to confront you online, play with 4 friends at home in 2v2 or by filling up missing slots with bots, buy the game twice and play 4v4 in your local network, and so on. Really cool!
The game itself is also great. It is a Smash Bros. clone with average fighting mechanics (stab or shoot to kill), but killing the enemy queen 3 times is not the only possible winning condition. You can also fill your base with enough berries to win. Or you can ride a snail to your side to end the game. These conditions can be met rather fast, so a good team has to prevent the other team from reaching any of those goals and reaching one itself. This makes teamplay a must. Just jumping around and killing enemies will never win you any game!
Both teams consist of a Queen and up to 3 workers that can upgrade themselves to fighters. Specific tasks require the right guy… this game is not built for egomaniacs.
Controller and online play worked fine for us.
