Through the moist, pitch-black darkness the eerie sounds of giant machinery can be heard.In an advanced facility that has been invaded by otherworldly beasts and local inhabitants, the fully-automatic system controlled by the main computer is still operating like a mad man. Awakening inside an abandoned laboratory, the green, ambiguous lifeform MO discovers that it not only has to face an extremely hostile and sinister environment, but it also must face humans who, having been taken over by alien parasitic plants, are now stuck in the endless limbo between death and rebirth.
What’s more, there seems to be an eerie presence that’s watching all of this from the shadows.
After groping around for clues, MO gradually becomes aware that it is responsible for a mission of immense importance. Under the guidance of the mysterious mutterings in its ear, MO is able to overcome one obstacle after another.
Who caused this disaster? And on this path that leads to answers for every unsolved riddle, what sorts of trials and tribulations lie ahead?

MO Astray Review
Mo:Astray is a platformer/puzzle/action/pixel art game. The pixel art itself is just gorgeously detailed, which draws us into a masterfully crafted atmosphere. You will feel dreaded, anxious yet wanting to know more of what’s going on in this ruined facility/planet. The story contributed a lot to this as well, leaving hints here and there on many places and creatures.
The platforming/action is really tight. Since you are a slime, you will have many unique abilities, like sticking to a platform, or to someone’s head and take control of them. You can also dash to rip off enemy’s head or just want to make that seemly impossible jump. The puzzles are innovative for its kind. They are not easy nor hard, but still prove to be really challenging if needed to be. What really shines in its gameplay tho, is the boss fight. For a metroidvania veteran, this game won’t be that hard to beat. But for a casual player, it’s definitely a challenge to overcome. All of the bosses are unique, beautifully designed, accompanied with memorable soundtrack to boost it all up.
Still, there are cons that you must consider.
This game expects its player to use a controller for a better experience. Tho you can use mouse & keyboard just fine, they won’t be as optimized as a controller itself. Sometime in a session, you can feel the somewhat sluggish mouse control. But don’t worry, it won’t affect the gameplay that much. The next thing is that this game is kinda short, 10-12 hrs to finish for an average player. The play time could be longer if the game offered us more secrets to look for, especially when the environment is detailed designed.
Overall, Mo:Astray is a fantastic game. It makes fully use of its interesting mechanics, cuts no corner and always get to the point. Accompanied with beautiful pixel art, immersive OST and a dark/visceral story, Mo:Astray ultimately earned a 9/10 from me.
