Pine

Pine

Pine is an open world action adventure simulation game. Set in the beautiful world of Albamare, you take on the role of Hue, a smart young adult who will have to explore, trade, and fight his way through a vibrant world filled with creatures much smarter than humans. As you’re looking for a new home for your tribe to settle in, you’ll have to engage with the large-scale ecology of Albamare. Prepare by exploring, bartering, talking, crafting and fighting in six different biomes, with and against a diverse cast of species that will not simply help you.

In Pine, things will happen across the open game world even without your involvement. All organisms are alive and will try what they can to survive. You can choose to befriend a species, fight alongside them, or you may also to attack them, steal their food or force them to abandon their current habitat. All of this will make the species move across the ecological spectrum.

Pine Review

It’s a pretty good indie game with a pretty disappointing story.
Without going too much into spoilers, the story feels rather pointless and the ending feels underwhelming.

The game itself is pretty good, the whole, get clans to be friendly with you and take down other clans is pretty neat, until you realize the flaws of that system (ie: can’t buy from a neutral faction, you have to be friends, can’t have more than 2 factions as friends (5 factions), certain factions are incredibly powerful but the friendly damage will make you regret siding with them).

It’s also a game about exploration… as in, you really have to explore the map and find what you need. Barely any indicators (outside of villages and camps), so you better memorize where your resources are.

Graphically the game looks nice, sadly, it’s made with unity engine and it shows, the game will often drop frames even on good machines (it drops on my 2080ti… and I’m a guy who plays at 1080p 60fps).

The soundtrack is pretty nice though, and makes the whole game feel very relaxing… almost to a fault though, as even once you get the best armor and weapons in the game, the difficulty will still be there, you can get your ♥♥♥ kicked easily (worse when you start the game)

Overall though, I had a lot of fun with Pine.
It’s not a perfect game by any means, but for the price I paid for and for the time I spent on it, I had my fun and I enjoyed my time.
