Playcraft Review
I’ve had access to Playcraft since it’s alpha stage and it’s some of the most fun I’ve ever had with a sandbox game. Coming from a background of playing games like “Project Spark” and creating my own maps and game modes in Halo Reach Forge mode, this game gives you a plethora of options to choose from that are of a similar style to the aforementioned examples.
While it’s made by solely one person, I would say to go in with an OPEN MIND. It’s definitely no easy feat to create an entire game by yourself, and I’d say Zeroneus, (the creator’s online alias), has done a fantastic job creating a mostly-stable experience for players to enjoy. It is by no means a finished product, as it’s still in early access, but I guarantee this game will only get better as time passes.
There are plenty of buildings and building blocks for you to choose from. There’s also a buggy, yet working terrain editor system, a painting system to change the colors of objects, and you’re able to code signals and whatnot without actually having to type lines of code! There’s a huge selection of SFX to really spice up the ambience and general vibe of your world that you choose to create, so definitely check those out!
If you’re looking for a game that you can goof around with your friends in, Playcraft is definitely for you. If you’re not into buggy, early access messiness, I’d recommend to wait until it’s out of early access. The game definitely has it’s bugs, but more times than not, the pros outweigh the cons. Like I said, go in with an open mind and don’t expect it to be as polished as if a third party company created it. Happy world building!
