Session Skateboarding Sim Game Review
The game is a ton of fun and the foundation for something great is there but some things need to be addressed.
This is probably my biggest complaint: Its like your skater skipped leg day. Seriously I don’t know what they were thinking making your skater push so slow and ollie so low. The first push your skater does is the most pathetic push I’ve ever seen in my life. Its like hes skating in grass until he gets 3 pushes in and It takes like 5 pushes to get to max speed. On the topic of max speed, you don’t go fast enough to even go up most inclines. And with the layout of the map, there’s a few places you find yourself with a run up that provides room for maybe 3 pushes. More than half of the obstacles in the game are too high for you to just skate up to and hit. You have to set up ramps for almost every hand rail. It is extremely annoying seeing a spot I wanna have a session on only to clip my feet every single time I roll up to it. I get this is supposed to a simulation, but dude, I could ollie higher and push myself faster than this guy any day of the week. He needs to do some squats.
Also steering needs to be tweaked. Maybe add the ability to use the left analog stick to steer when not in ollie position. Not the end of the world if this doesn’t get addressed but it would be a huge quality of life improvement if that was added. currently its too easy to revert while micro-adjusting your angle with the triggers.
All that said, The game feels good and seeing it in Early Access gives me hope the game will only get better. I pray that at the very least they make the skater push harder and faster and ollie higher. If those are two core functions of this game were improved on then it would be perfect. I know it seems like Im ragging on the game but these are just what I feel need to happen to put the game where it needs to be.
