Shop Heroes Review
A bit of history: This is a recreation of a classic flash game named Swords & Potions and the sequel Swords & Potions 2, which was made by EdgeBee Studios Inc.
EdgeBee went out of business, but the founder and many of the staff went on to create CloudCade, Inc.
CloudCade are the makers of Shop Heroes.
If you were ever a regular at Kongregate or Armor Games, odds are good you tried the precursor game and had a shot of nostalgia. There is no doubt this game takes a ton of elements from Swords & Potions, but it isn’t a rip off. You might more accurately think of it as Swords & Potions 3.
Now onto the review of this game itself. The profit model is very much like the Sims series – they have only a few truly expiring ‘get this or gone forever’ content bundles, doing the occasional throwback period where you can get past bundles you missed. Each content package added together is a hefty price tag, and of course there is a premium currency you can buy in bulk if you really want to.
The premium packages often add some new content to the game, some minor perks or decor that you can’t get any other way. In this sense, you have to pay real money to experience the full game.
If you end up liking it enough to stay longer, there is plenty of content to satisfy. Just be prepared to pay more than an A-list game costs to keep competitive.
