After his car hit a tree in a stormy night, Peter wakes up in an old abandoned mansion, somewhere in England. He can´t remember why and how he got here, but soon he realises that the house is not as abandoned as it seems. While trying to find a way out of the house, Peter has to uncover the dark secrets of what has happened in this place.
As he tries to find his way out, Peter discovers hints which indicate that he has already been here before. But by the time he’s starting to put the pieces of the puzzle together, something evil has picked up his trail… Solve puzzles to find out how you are connected to the mysteries of this place. Silver Chains Review
The new “Silver Chains” first-person horror game offers the player to go to an abandoned house full of dark memories of something terrible, devastated spirits and terrible discoveries. The game became the debut for the developer of “Cracked Heads Games” and this is felt by the differences that accompany the game process, when very successful finds alternate with not so successful errors. The main trump card in the case of this game is genre traditionalism in almost everything that is beneficial in many components, but seems to be holding back some interesting innovations that can give a new gaming experience in silver chains. This can even be called the effect of the debut game, often accompanying the games of young developers.
What tradition adherence doesn’t interfere with is the story being told. She is quite exciting, plot twists keep in suspense; it is very pleasing that it is served not only in notes (as is very often the case in games of the genre), but in plot commercials and game scenes. Visually, the game looks quality, the lighting system is correctly implemented, the interiors are designed and remembered (this helps to navigate in the huge number of rooms that are presented in the game). Most of the puzzles are quite logical, in extreme cases you can always find some tips for solving them, and, most importantly, they look very logical in the game universe, without destroying the spirit of the game. Screamers sometimes work as they should, scaring to goosebumps, but in some places they look even superfluous. The animations in the game are very smooth, and it is immediately noticeable that they worked on them for a very long time and painstakingly.
But you need to honestly say that sometimes “Silver Chains” is very weak in terms of intuitive communication with the player, and you just do not know what you need to do now. Perhaps in this case, for some places, a more flexible hint or navigation system could be made. By the middle of the game, I was already too annoyed by the playing moment with Mother, who did not develop at all, but continued to act all the same methods as at the beginning of the game. The final battle also leaves a double impression: on the one hand, they offer us new game mechanics, and on the other, they do it so unexpectedly and without eyeliner that at first it causes irritation.
“Silver Chains” is a pretty good horror game that in some places suffers a lot from its own caution, but is definitely able to give some interesting and frightening hours of gameplay.
