Sonic Lost World Review

This is one of the good 3d Sonic games. I mean, it plays like Mario Galaxy, feels like a classic Sonic game and controls like sh*t.

The reason why I think this game is good, is because of the good level design and the focus on speed. The tube-like planets, even though are taken straight out of Mario Galaxy, fit in and work really well.

Another positive aspect of Lost Worlds is that old traits of the Sonic franchise that weren’t seen since Sonic 3 are back. The whole “save the animals” plot returned as a game mechanic (basically you need a certain amound of animals in order to progress) and finally Super Sonic is a power-up on every stage and not restricted in the final boss battle. (To unlock him you have to beat the game and collect all the red rings).

The best part of the game is a move I like to call the perpetual spin dash. To execute it you need to perform a spin dash, then jump while holding both the run and spin dash buttons and repeat. I really like this move and want it to return because it makes you run incredibly fast.

The story is funny and simple enough. The cutscenes load quickly and you can skip them if you want to.

The Nights into Dreams DLC is essentially a re-skin of many of the prior boss fights, but it was still fun. Unfortunately, the Yoshi and Zelda DLCs are not present on the PC version of the game.

Overall, this game was okay. I rate is 7.25 out of 10. I would’ve loved to rate it higher, as it had much going for it, but the gameplay (and resulting difficulty) really dampers the experience. I would definitely not purchase this game at full price, but it is worth checking out if you enjoy the Sonic universe and see the game on-sale.
