The Swordsmen X Review
The Swordsmen X is yet another battle royale game in early access (surprise!). Jokes aside, is this game any different from the plethora of other battle royale games? In short, yes. It does not have guns, nor is it militaristic in any way. You play as a medieval warrior who feels very samurai-like. You can engage in melee or ranged combat and have a horse mount to travel around the gorgeous world it is set in.
The game is gorgeous to say the least. It has a variety of terrain that matches the theme, from mountains to lakes to vast open fields. There is also a beautiful soundtrack to accompany the visually stunning world. It truly makes you feel like you are in medieval Asia. The combat feels a lot like PUBG combined with Dark Souls 3. There are some games with melee combat where you can’t even tell if you hit your target or not, and that absolutely destroys the immersion. This is not the case with The Swordsmen X. It is responsive; you can feel the impact of attacks, which is always great. Ranged and melee combat styles are fairly different with their own pluses and negatives.
I like the change in formula with melee combat. The world is amazing with varied terrain. This makes the game immersive. I fully enjoyed my time with it. That being said, I couldn’t get past the bugs and issues. It seems like every BR game has to be unoptimised and buggy, and this game is no different. The Swordsmen X is different enough with its rewarding martial arts style combat and a beautiful, medieval setting to merit a purchase, but it’s recommended to wait until the devs fix the major issues. While the game is in a very, over-saturated genre, it does do quite a bit differently. Sadly, this game hasn’t had much marketing, so its future is still obscure. I would recommend purchasing this only if you love battle royale and want more, or if you like the setting with martial arts style combat. Otherwise, I would recommend either waiting for the full release or a hefty discount.
