They Are Billions

They Are Billions

They Are Billions is a Steampunk strategy game set on a post-apocalyptic planet. Build and defend colonies to survive against the billions of the infected that seek to annihilate the few remaining living humans. Can humanity survive after the zombie apocalypse? In this mode, a random world is generated with its own events, weather, geography, and infected population. You must build a successful colony that must survive for a specific period of time against the swarms of infected. It is a fast and ultra addictive game mode. We plan to release a challenge of the week where all players must play the same random map. The best scores will be published in a leaderboard. This is a real-time strategy game, but don’t get too nervous. You can pause the action to take the best strategic and tactical decisions. In Pause Mode, you can place structures to build, give orders to your army, or consult all of the game’s information. This game is all about strategy, not player performance or the player’s skill to memorize and quickly execute dozens of key commands. Pause the game and take all the time you need! Only the maddest ones. Train and contract mercenaries to protect the colony. They demand their money and food, and you will have to listen to their awful comments, but these tormented heroes will be your best weapon to destroy the infected. Yes! They are billions! The world is full of infected creatures… they roam, smell, and listen. Every one of them has their own AI. Make noise and they will come – kill some of them to access an oil deposit and hundred of them will come to investigate.

They Are Billions

In They Are Billions, you will build the most magnificent colony. Upgrade everything to the fullest, prepare the best defense. But just as you’re starting to feel good about your base, the billions will raze down everything you’ve ever accomplished. That’s the game in a nutshell for you. It’s hard, it’s challenging but it’s a whole lot of fun. Here’s our They Are Billions review for you if you need a little convincing.

Future Earth has been overrun and humanity has fallen to the undead. As one of the few remaining survivors, your task is to build a colony. It’s never that simple, of course. Once you got your basics set up, you have to make sure it thrives and is capable of surviving the horde. How? By building defenses. Turrets, walls and your army will help you combat the undead. Meanwhile, the colonist will work on maintaining the whole operation. There are 8 resources in this game that you’ll have to manage: gold, worker, food, wood, metal, iron, oil and energy. Each of them is important to your progress and survival. So, on top of thinning out the herd, you’ll also have to manage the economy of your colony.

Once you move into the mid game and have yourself more or less safely walled in, the threat of the mostly passive groups of zombies around the map subsides – a group of about 20 snipers can clear the undead like a lawnmower through tall grass in a very satisfying way. The key to survival then becomes a race against the clock to tech up and produce advanced defenses like crowd-melting Shock Towers before the waves of zombies that attack at regular intervals turn into tidal waves. Toward the end of a standard 100 in-game-day run, the hordes of attackers get so big they look like a fluid simulation of actual waves as they crash into your walls, and eventually even caused my Core i7-7700K and GTX 1080 to struggle to cope with their numbers. Are they technically billions? No, but they are definitely thousands.

They Are Billions’ Early Access survival mode makes single-player turtling in an RTS feel new and exciting for the first time in years. The lack of a save-game safety net and the fragility of your starting colony makes each attempt dangerous, and the randomized maps force you to think carefully about how and when to expand your colony. Once you settle into a routine there aren’t many surprises to force you out of it, but getting that far is a good challenge.
