Headsnatchers

Headsnatchers

Challenge your friends to insane brawls, where the goal is to pluck heads from shoulders and use them to get that much-desired victory! Headsnatchers has 25 ridiculous maps with unique, yet unlikely, weapons and features, with their own steps and rules to follow. Well, they’re more like guidelines. Nobody likes rules. Dunk your buddies’ heads through hoops like LeBron, kick your grandpa’s gobbler through a portal to hell like Doomguy™ and flush your sister’s brain-basket down the toilet like the dooky you pushed out five hours after you shoved that XL pizza down your face. You name it, Headsnatchers has got it. Probably.

OFF WITH THEIR (100+) HEADS

Because apparently kids nowadays are all about self-expression and unique identifiers, we felt we couldn’t stay behind the times. With over 100 unique heads to choose from, there’s a head for everyone. Did we mention there are pop culture references? There’s a head that resembles that one angry guy from that anime you used to love, and one from a children’s show with a certain mathematically challenged Count. If you don’t like any of those, make your own heads using the Headitor! You can save up to 20 heads, so go nuts trying to recreate those school dweebs who used to pick you last for gym.

A SINGLE-PLAYER MODE MADE JUST FOR YOU

Sometimes you just need a little me-time – we totally get it. Rip it up in the single-player Zombie Castle-mode! This single-player feature spans across three different difficulty levels. “But, my dudes, every game has multiple difficulties nowadays”, we hear you thinking. Zombie Castle is different throughout its easy, normal and hard modes. Different levels, different everything, same zombies. We’re calling it right now: you can’t beat them all. Probably.

OBLIGATORY KEY FEATURE BULLET POINTS

We’re sorry, but we just have to go over all of the features one last time. Okay, ready?

  • Local and online* multiplayer, support up to 4 players
  • 4 game modes and 25 unique levels
  • Zombie Castle single-player mode, for when you really need some me-time
  • Choose from 100 heads
  • A limitless custom head creator* (yes, we’re calling it the Headitor, and there’s nothing you can do about it) that allows you to save up to 20 custom heads*

Headsnatchers Review

Headsnatchers is a party game centered around the idea of taking your opponents head. The characters are animated dolls, so removing someone’s head doesn’t remove them from the match.

In standard multiplayer, the game cycles between different modes, each of which involve taking off an opponent’s head and then using it for something. For example, one game mode involved grabbing an opponent’s head and then using it to knock over pins, as though the head was a bowling ball. The rest of the modes are likewise filled with slapstick ways of using your opponent’s head once you get it—using it as a basketball, as a football, as a means of performing a ritual to open a door. As you can probably guess, the first to win a set number of matches wins the game.

The game has both online and local multiplayer—local multiplayer can be accomplished by connecting controllers to the computer. However, this game is clearly built for local multiplayer (there are at least 2 different game types for local multiplayer while online multiplayer only has the standard game). Additionally, when I tried using the online quick match, I was never placed into a game with anyone else. The only time I played online was when I set up a match with a friend who also had the game (and even that had some bugs). Since I didn’t have any controllers that I could connect to the computer, I was only able to sample the standard and single-player games.

The game has a single-player mode called “zombie castle.” Unlike the multiplayer, this game mode appears to be focused more around platforming that it is about stealing heads. As this game appears to have been built with a controller in mind, trying to play with a keyboard and mouse resulted in me falling off the edge multiple times Also, from what I could see, if you quit, then you need to start from the beginning (this mode has no save points).

The game also has a mode that allows you to create your own custom head for use in single-player and multiplayer. There were a vast amount of options ranging from silly to serious—although as this is a party game, most of them were silly.
Overall, I enjoyed the multiplayer of this game but found the single-player frustrating. This is clearly a game meant to be played with friends.
