Pillars of Eternity 2 Deadfire is a role-playing video game that is played from an isometric perspective. Both returning and new companions are available, depending upon the choices made by the player, which play an optional story role within the game. Class based gameplay returns, with each class having at least four optional sub-classes with unique skills. A new feature in Deadfire is the ability to multi-class.

Pillars of Eternity 2 Review
This game is everything that I wanted the original to be. It improves upon nearly every aspect of the original, making it in my books, the best CRPG I’ve played since the classic Infinity Engine games.
The characters are endearing, well voiced, and excellently written. Gone are the exposition dumps of characters like Durance and Grieving mother. While I loved the concept of those characters, the delivery was overwhelming and hard to connect to. The main story, unlike the original, grabs you right away. Instead of (again) lengthy narrative dumps, deadfire eases you right in and lets you play your way into to story rather than dumping it on you in huge chunks.
The setting also stands out. There’s something just so satisfying about playing pirate, sailing a ship and exploring the vast world map in search of hidden treasures and cool places to explore. I’m having way more fun just checking things out than I ever did in POE1 where exploration felt like a bit of an afterthought.
The fidelity of the game is also vastly improved. The character models, environmental effects, shadows, and little animation touches are absolutely stunning. Deadfire feels like a living breathing world, and you forget completely that the backgrounds are actually pre-rendered due to some clever animation tricks they’ve used to bring the scenes to life.
There’s more to say than I could ever fit here, but suffice to say that if you love the CRPG genre, you absolutely need to play this game.
